Path in the dark

Into your eyes I plunge
into the neverending depth
trying to touch your soul
reaching out for your heart
missing by inches
back to the start

Feeling the fire
that burns my soul
feeling the pull
that tears me apart
aching in every bone
as my gut turns cold as stone

All the good reasons
all the logical words
all the unspoken things
all of them heard
all of them useless
against my aching heart

Falling in darkness
deeper than absence of light
received another beating
lost another fight
just another scarred mark
on my path in the dark
